Hi, How Can We Help You?

Wanda Martinez

Wanda Martinez

Wanda Martinez joined Planta & Satin, LLC as Of Counsel in February, 2017 and concentrates her practice in the areas of Family Law, Domestic Violence, and Criminal Law.  Previously, she worked as an Associate Attorney at Rismiller Law Group, LLC from October, 2012 through January, 2017.  Prior to her experience in private practice, Ms. Martinez worked as Special Counsel to the Montgomery County Office of Child Support Enforcement (MCOCSE) for over thirteen years. In her capacity as Special Counsel, she used her skills daily to assist mostly unrepresented Spanish-speaking clients in navigating the complexities of the child support process, and she continues to do so in her current practice.  Her bilingual skills were, and continue to be, invaluable to the growing Latino population.

Ms. Martinez began her legal career working for a private firm specializing in child abuse and neglect cases.  She then worked for six years as a solo practitioner, expanding her expertise to the areas of domestic relations, guardianship, adoption, bankruptcy, wills and contract law. In addition to her private practice, she also accepted court appointments from the District of Columbia Superior Court as a “guardian ad litem” to represent children, and provided legal counsel for parents/caretakers in cases of child abuse and neglect.  Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Queens, she graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. After working for several years in New York City, she came to the Washington, DC area to pursue her law degree at Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law.  She graduated in 1993 and was admitted to the Maryland Bar that same year.

Ms. Martinez’s outreach extends far beyond the office. She has been interviewed by Betty Valdes on the show “Que Pasa” on Montgomery County Cable Channel 16, and on the radio by George Rosario on his show “De Todo Un Poco”, by Alejandro Carrasco of Radio America and, more recently, Alejandro Negron and Joseph Malouf, Esq. on their new radio show, “Agenda DC” . She has served the people of Montgomery County in many different ways, serving on various committees, such as the Latino Progress Advisory Group, an organization of community citizens concerned about the issues affecting immigrants. This group also worked towards having more Latinos represented in significant positions throughout State government. Additionally, she helped residents of the county prepare for the U.S. Citizenship test through her volunteer work with the Montgomery County Refugee Citizen Preparation Program.  Ms. Martinez is further extending her services to the immigrant population by representing unaccompanied minor children in Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) and Asylum Cases. The majority of the children are victims of neglect and abuse, abandonment, violence or human trafficking, and arrive in the United States alone, with no supervision.

Ms. Martinez previously served on the Executive Board for the Juvenile Court Committee of Montgomery County as Chair of the Legislative Subcommittee, where she tracked legislation that affected the juvenile division being transferred from the District to the Circuit Court System. She has served on the Executive Committee of the Bar Association of Montgomery County and is currently serving on the Circuit Court Bench-Bar Committee, the Board of Directors for the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association, served as President for 2015 – 2016, the Character Committee for the 7th Circuit of the Court of Appeals, and she is a member in good standing of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bars, the United States District Court of Maryland, the United States District Court of the District of Columbia, and the Supreme Court of the United States, and the Maryland and Montgomery County Women’s Bar Associations.
